Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchus (bronchus) (airways into the lungs).
The disease is usually mild and will eventually recover completely. But in patientswho have chronic illnesses (as heart disease or lung disease) and in the elderly,bronchitis can be serious.
Causes of Bronchitis
Bronchitis can be caused by viruses, bacteria, and organisms that resemblebacteria (mycoplasma pneumoniae and chlamydia). Recurrent bronchitis attackscan occur in smokers and patients with lung disease, and chronic diseases of therespiratory tract. Recurrent infections can result from: chronic sinusitis,bronchiectasis, allergies, enlarged tonsils and adenoids in children.
Symptoms of Bronchitis
Symptoms seen in people with bronchitis include:
cough with phlegm (sputum can be colored reddish)
shortness of breath during exercise or mild activity
often suffer from respiratory infections (as flu)
asthma
tired
swelling of the ankles, feet and right leg - left
face, palms or reddish mucous membrane
cheeks look red
headache
impaired vision
